Imagine a seriously good sounding complete Hi-Fi System about the size of the average toaster, impossible? Welcome to the Meridian F80!

In 2005 Meridian began a collaboration with Ferrari to develop a range of products that would reflect the unique qualities of both companies. The result is the F80, which brings together all the expertise Meridian has developed over the years, starting with the chassis which uses a mineral composite material similar to that used in Ferrari F1 cars (this material provides astonishing rigidity in order to maximize the loudspeakers performance), while the F80’s advanced DSP driven amplification system uses an 80 watt 2.1 specially designed loudspeaker system incorporating a separate sub woofer – all in this tiny enclosure!

The system incorporates active equalization coupled with adjustable stereo width, settings to compensate for room positioning and Bass and treble lift and tilt controls so the sound can be adjusted to suit the room acoustics or to ones personal preference. Having said that our demo unit here in Blackrock is set to flat other than the width control which is set at maximum width. The F80 combines CD, DVD, AM, FM and Dab radio. The onboard DVD playback allows the unit to function as a great sounding 2.1 audio system for TV in addition to its other possibilities. Furthermore Meridian’s matching i80 iPod dock is also available.

The sound quality is excellent and the unit is quite capable of going seriously loud. In my 18’ x 30’ living room its ability to reproduce low bass – without distortion – is uncanny, no doubt in part due to the clever active amplification used. However this is not the full story, it is the sound quality which really impresses – at all volume levels from a whisper upwards the F80 sounds really full bodied and musical. When the World Hi-Fi press first heard the F80 they were astonished – drop into Blackrock for a demonstration and prepare to be amazed!
